Advanced Clinical Procedures Labs

Advanced Clinical Procedures Labs

2 credits (3 ECTS Credits)

Introduction

The course provides instruction and guidance in advanced procedures for examination of the retina, diagnosing and assessing retinal diseases using Volk lenses, Binocular Indirect ophthalmoscopy, OCT, Visual fields, Fundus photography, and Goldmann Tonometry.

The course runs concurrently with the contact lens clinics. Those registered in both courses will alternate rotations through both clinics.

Course Structure

The course includes 4 practice lab-based sessions to learn and practice the techniques, followed by 2 clinic-based sessions that offer the opportunity to perform these techniques on real patients. The clinical sessions will also include a summative assessment that determines the final grade for the course.

·         To understand the necessary precautions before using topical anesthesia and to advise a patient about what to expect,
·         Perform Goldmann tonometry,
·         Use OCT and Fundus photography to assess and diagnose retinal diseases,
·         Perform Visual field testing and correctly interpret the information gathered,
·         Perform the above procedures on actual patients.
